Hello out there. It's been a while since i've done a teaching blog. Ive gotten some responses back saying that people were reading the blogs and growing from it. So tonight we will talk about the reason why we study the bible. What good will it do for us? Who benefits from studying the bible, so let's begin.
In 2Timothy 2:15 it says, study to show yourselves approved, a workman need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. First, think about this; I have an apple pie, as a whole it can just feed me, but if I take it and divide it into 8 pieces, then i'm able to share it. So, what is the purpose of dividing the word of truth? So that you can share it. Many Christians read the bible but don't study it. I can read a quick verse and say" I've read my verse for today". Understand that this is an intellectual exercise, the art of reading. An Athiest can read the bible and get the same understanding as anyone who just reads it; however the revelational truths found in it' pages, are reserved only for the believer who studies the bible.
Now, many of you have applied for a car loan. there were certain criteria for you to meet the conditions, in order for you to qualify for that loan. It is the same with studying the bible. Look at the verse above "study to show yourself "APPROVED". So here is the $1,000.00 question;
how do I know when i've been approved to be a workman ? when you rightly divide the word of truth. How do I know if I've been disqualified from being a workman? when you incorrectly assume that something means this, when it really means that.
Let's use an example: Phillipians 4:19 ,but My God shall supply all of your need according to His reiches in glory by Christ Jesus. Many take this scripture and blow it out of proportion and really do not investigate the meaning of it. When they get into a financial bind, this is the
scripture that they quote. You don't quote the word, you quote scripture. Let's find out what this verse is talking about. The Phillipian Church was suppling the apostle Pauls necessity
while he was out preaching. They gave him clothes, food, provisions, whatever is needed for him to complete his mission. As a result of that He spoke that word[Phil 4:19]. So, the needs of the Philipian church was being met, because they were supplying someone elses need.
Now christians just quote that scripture, but they have no desire to aid a brother, put some gas in someones tank, pay someone elses rent for a month, sow a bag of groceries for someone, sow money into programs that feed the poor, and clothe the naked, take care of widows, strangers at the gate, and orphans. they think if they just do tithes and offerings at their local church, that is enough.
No that is not enough! The great commision was to "GO" not "STAY".
How about this; you are witnessing to someone, and they ask you about a scripture, and you say this" I don't know where that is in the bible, but it's in there"! Now wait a minute, if you know how much money is in your bank account, how much gas in your car, how many hours you worked this week, how much more should you know where these scriptures are, so when you need them you can go to them.
Let's go a step further; many pastors and church leaders can preach the verses and scripture, because they are coming out of their intelligence. They are preaching it based on head knowledge. There is no revelation in head knowledge. We are fighting a spiritual battle and intellect alone can not do the job, you need revelation knowledge. Studying the bible is the pathway to that knowledge.
let's take another scripture{2tim 3:16] all scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine reproof correction and instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be PERFECT thoroughly funished unto all good works. So here we see that man, when he
studies and applies the scriputres[ I mean a saved man] In the eyes of God, he is perfect. This idea of "well nobodys perfect" is a tired flawed excuse to keep walking in your flesh. Stop saying that "nobodys perfect". When someone ask you if you are perfect, you say "YES"!
Lets dig a little deeper; the one thing that was missing out of 2tim 3:16, is the word "revelation".
The bible is a map for many business in the country, though they may not give Jesus the credit for it. the Idea of a company having a "STAFF", came right out of the bible. it was when Moses spread his staff over the red sea and God parted it[exodus 14:16] rod=staff. Now notice this,
when the staff was lifted, The power of God divided the waters. So notice what the job of the staff is: it is to divide out responsiblities. I could go on an on about the parallels between the business world and the teachings of the bible.
At what point does a scripture become the Word? Jesus was the word made flesh, not the scripture made flesh[John 1: 14] James 1:21 says that the "ENGRAFTED" word of God is able to save your soul. the word "ENGRAFTED" takes its meaning out of when somone is burned and they graft some skin off of one part of the body and places it on another part of the body. So until the word is "grafted" to you, IT WON'T DO YOU ANY GOOD!.
When you study, the scriptures will go into your mind[head] first. As you continue to remember
it and speak it, the scripture travels down from you mind[head] and when it reaches the heart, it becomes "THE WORD". David said in Psalms 119:11, that the word was hidden in his heart, not his head! So when you are in a situation, and you need divine help, go to the scriptures and wait for God to take you to a particular scripture, in that chapter or verse, there is a "WORD" waiting on you. You take that scripture and put it in your mouth and begin to confess it and meditate on it. Once it hits the heart, the thing you were dealing with and confessing will come to pass.
It is like when a cow eats grass and chews it up, then vomits it out and adds more grass and chews it again, vomits it back up, then adds more grass, until that grass is so refined, it becomes part of a cows being. That is what you do with word. So you see, none of these marvelous truths are available to a believer if you don't study. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE.
